21/05/02 Well, well well. the rack mounted server is here. We have been waiting a long long time for this one. OS X Server is the reason we can now have products such as this. Some analysts are indicating that it may have limited appeal, but i think it will be huge. OS X is a breeze to use as is the server version. If you wish you can get all complicated and go in under the hood unix style. It is your choice. It is a very good Apple product, and is the beginning of the Apple move to enterprise. Xserve is a winner!

20/05/02 We are now studing the new upgrade to the iBook line. It is very much a small step to keep them fresh. The s-video option is a bonus and the coposite video bring more functionality. We just wish we could see some of the even faster G3 chips in there. However they are very good machines and maybe we are just been too greedy!

09/05/02 We have been studing the proposed Summer upgrade to OS X and we think it is a winner with iChat, Quicktime 6, and Ink (handwriting regognition) to name just a few.
Jaguar is worth waiting for. It offers many improvements. However we are very much hoping here at macodyssey.com that the upgrade includes much better power management on the iBook and the PowerBook, both present and recent. OS X has too few features in this area. Where is processor cycling etc.?

29/04/02 The new eMac has arrived! Well it is a bit strange. A CRT. But it is understandable as Apple need to keep costs down for Edcuation. It is a speedy and good machine. Apple is listening to the masses. Also the upgrade to the PowerBook Titaniam is welcomed. It now packs much more punch and the ability to hook up the Apple line of Flat panel monitors for the first time. This was at the top of our wish list.
Also some other issues such as heat eccess dissapation were also solved

24/04/02 Has anyone noticed the sutle changes in the Dantz Retrospect backup solutions now that they are OS X native? We are specifically talking about the new charges, and the fact the normal client won't run on OS X server. this is a pain as some people will only need to backup directly to media and not over a network. Also it is a steep upgrade price even if you purchased the version 4 in the past two months.

18/04/02 The one thing that has bothered us with OS X is the fact that any printer from Canon or Epson older than 2 years old probably will never have an OS X driver. This is a real pain. And it doesn't just stop with those companies. Are there any bright sparks out there who know if a unervisal printer driver could be produced to jut do the basic stuff and allow use of more printers? E-mail us here at macodyssey.com

09/04/02 Has anyone had alot of problems with slow ppp connections in OS X? We have! Well
OS X 10.1.4 seems to fix this properly. So now our iBooks just connect immediately
when you dial into our modems.

29/03/02 Another great addition to the Mac is compatibility with Bluetooth. This is the wireless technology for smaller divices which is gaining pace. We think that this a very significant move and the most important aspect of the recent Tokyo Expo.

25/03/02 We have fully checked out the new Remote Desktop Software. It looks pretty good. It offers good functionality and is a breeze to use. www.apple.com

20/03/02 The aftermath of Tokyo Expo... Record crowds. Well pretty good! New iPod, New 23" Cinema Display, new software.... a great show. Steve wows them again. We see more thought about the Mac masses in this senario. The price rise for the iMacs is a little disappointing but in line with industry trends. www.apple.com

20/02/02 Alot more has been happening in Mac world in the last few weeks. We are building up to the Tokyo Expo. What will be announced? Apple tell us no new products will be launched.

18/01/02 Well, well well! What an exciting time. We have to congratulate Apple Computer this time on a great update to the iMac, infact the new model is a worthy successor to the most successful personal computer in technology history. The 14 in. screen option on the iBook shows that Job's and his team are listening to the faithful. We are just waiting on what will happen in the next month or two with the G4 professional line. We expect the change at Mac Expo Tokyo. There has been some crithism of excessive hype at the Expo keynotes but hey we are entitled to be happy and hype the cause a little bit, as the dark side always do. We can be proud too. Watch the WinTel industry follow along maybe next year.....

11/01/02 New link: appleaudio.com is the daily mac radio program with all the latest web news and rumors. Lasts for 10-20min or so daily.

10/01/02 New link: Appleskinz.com delivers the perfect (?) skin to your G3 or G4 for that alternative look...

14/12/01 New super cool link: macshowlive.com is a web based radio, streamline or download.

08/12/01 At the moment we think Apple has it's strongest portfolio of products for years. The G4 is particulary brilliant. Let us know how you are getting on with the iPod et al. We want to know exactly how those products are performing in the business enviroment.
We now think that the Cube should be re-introduced. Obviously it would need to be up-dated with some re-engineering, but we feel that there is a huge market in the business arena particularyfor a small feature packed machine, that is elegant and network ready. The origional market that the cube was targeted at is still applicable, but the target audience needs to be expanded. Price needs to be good value, but not too low.

23/10/01 Go to spymac.com for a pre-release of the new apple device...Could this be "it"???

16/10/01 New Products launched by Apple! >powerbook< >ibook<
To all the macodyssey.com faithful, we really need a little apology as we have been so stunned by the events in America and the subsequent cancellation of the European Mac Expo in Paris, that we have failed to react for 2 weeks! Some of the editorial staff went to Paris anyway to see what the atmosphere was like. We security was high with soldiers in all the railway stations, and no rubbish bins in Paris! However most of the Mac dealers who had specials for the Expo kept them nonetheless and thus there were some great bargains to be had there, especially for hard to get peripherals. The European Expo is a big loss. The MAc Expo in London in coming up soon and Macodyssey.com is considering making a date there to comment on the progress that is making now that Apple has confirmed it's presence.

How are people getting on with 10.1? Let us know. We really like the windows integration part. Also the full feature set. How are people getting along with the battery conservation? We haven't a final decision on that one yet. OS 9 may still be king in this area.
Overall our initial response is very positive. More later!

So macodyssey.com will soon be moving to a new level with new features and options. We will also be introducing advertising from companies who offer genuinely helpful peripherals and solutions. ( Like the fantastic Epson Parallel to USB cable and driver we got in the office recently. It is so good! It just works. It is far better than the USB to Serial adapters which we could have used) So if anyone is interested in advertising on macodyssey.com, please e-mail and we will hopefully be of help.

We predict Mac OS X to make additional market share for Apple. Has anyone any stories of how Mac OS X has influenced people to look again at the Mac Platform? Let us know!
